On simple pleasures
Celebrating the little things that are helping me get by
Hi folks!
I’m writing to you from Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley, where the snow has started to melt and the sun is out for the first time in weeks. It’s been a long, grey winter, and the first signs of Spring have been incredibly welcome. I’m even happy to experience the less savoury parts of the season: the slush-filled streets, the oncoming allergies, the birds who start singing at 6:30 a.m.
Spring and Fall have always been my favourite seasons. I love these transitional stages, where you can literally see and feel the world changing around you. There’s a big window in my living room, so even though I don’t leave the apartment much, I can still watch as the Valley fills with colour again.
Of course, this Spring has been marked by deep wells of uncertainty. I don’t know if school will be in person next year. I don’t know when I’ll get to see my family or my friends in person again. But I’ve been trying to focus on the good and consistent things in my life; the simple pleasures that make everything else more bearable.
If you’re reading this and you’re thinking “this newsletter is incredibly sappy,” you’re right! After so many gloomy months, I just want to talk about all the nice things that are helping me get by (like Spring! and warm weather!). So, here are some more of them:
Okay! That’s it! If you want to comment/share some of the little things that have been bringing you joy lately, I’d love to hear them :)
Thanks for reading/subscribing — I’m really having fun with these.
